We’re pleased to give you a sneak peek at one of our latest deliverables, which delves deep into the performance of ERA_FABRIC partner regions compared to the “ideal type” of ERA Hub, which is emerging as a reference model for regional research and innovation ecosystems.

This deliverable is the result of the extensive collaboration, led by Warsaw University of Technology, with input from representatives of all ERA_FABRIC partner regions. It draws on findings from previous analyses:

  • Findings from “Knowledge Ecologies for Territorial Value Creation” (Deliverable D2.1)
  • Common ground elements from “EU Place-Based R&I Ecosystems” (Deliverable D2.2)
  • Data from EU Stakeholder Survey Results (Deliverable D2.3)
Highlights of the Deliverable:
  1. Regional Profiling:
A comprehensive profiling of partner regions using survey data to identify strengths and weaknesses in their innovation ecosystems.
  2. Prioritisation & Assessment Methodology:
Using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), key criteria were prioritised to determine their relevance to the ‘ideal type’ ERA Hub. This led to the development of the ERA Hubs Composite Index, which ilustrates the results of compliance assessment of partner regions to ‘ideal type’.
  3. Key Outcomes:
    • Insights into the characteristics of each region’s research and innovation ecosystem according to survey reasults.
    • Regional conformity rankings based on the ERA Hubs Composite Index and sub-indexes.

This work provides a valuable framework for understanding how partner regions align with the ‘ideal type’ ERA Hub and for discussing pathways to enhance their innovation ecosystems.
